Narrative summary

The training aimed to build the capacities of 10 CSOs representatives on emergency planning and response and to strengthen their capacities to engage their networks in the development of a national framework for responding to humanitarian crises. The objectives of the training were achieved through lectures and hands-on sessions with case studies, as well as peer-to-peer learning among participants. The participants were able to identify gaps in their knowledge of emergency planning and response. The training was both in-person of Iraqi CSOs and online for MENA CSOs, three days each. It was based on the Toolkit that was developed earlier by RDG and The Station Day 1 The first day of the workshop began with a welcome note from The Station team and an introduction to the training program by Roya Development Group (RDG) trainers. Discussion took place on the purpose of the training and its importance for CSOs who are working in emergencies. The participants were given an overview of how to prepare for a training and what they could expect from the training. The second part of the day was dedicated to understanding the emergency management cycle, which includes preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Trainers used case studies to help CSOs understand these stages better and see how they can be applied in their context. The participants were also given a chance to practice different activities related to each stage in order to get them ready for the next day's activities. Day 2 The second day started with a presentation on a risk assessment which allowed participants to apply what they learned during the first day's session. The second day focused on practical exercises in which the participants divided into groups, designed an emergency plan for their organization, and presented it to their peers. They also learned about different tools that can help them in their work as CSOs during a crisis and learned how to prepare for a crisis meeting. The participants were also given an opportunity to ask questions and interact with one another during the session. The day ended with a discussion on how to improve the plans and what more needs to be done before they are finalized. Day 3 The third day focused on simulations where each group had to solve a hypothetical situation using their emergency plans. This allowed them to practice putting their plans into action before they are needed. The day also included a discussion on how to improve the plans and what more needs to be done before they are finalized. The participants also learned about different tools that can help them in their work as CSOs during a crisis and learned how to prepare for a crisis meeting. The participants were also given an opportunity to ask questions and interact with one another during the session. Overall, the training was very successful. The participants were able to apply what they learned during the days of training to their daily work and learned new skills that will help them manage risks better in the future. They learned how to prepare for different types of crises, how to manage risk assessments, and how to communicate with each other during a crisis. Attendance: 12 Iraqi CSOs representatives attended the three day of the in-person training and 16 MENA CSOs representatives attended the online training.
