YouthSpeak Forum is a global initiative which focuses in bringing youth, NGOs and private sector companies with the aim of generating ideas for the benefit of communities around the world. The YouthSpeak Forum 2018 took place in Johannesburg and brought together over 50 young people from a dozen African countries to discuss and workshop “Actions towards decent jobs and innovation.”
Representing the Latin America and Caribbean I4C Hub, @gerardo discussed global unemployment trends and how we need to learn to be human again and think of the future as an opportunity for constant learning. He then went on to introduce the Sharing Economy platform, Comunidas, while elaborating on the concept of sharing economy models using examples from local African contexts, like Worknasi and Fablab, which offer co-working, networking, and prototyping spaces across the continent, to Medici, a South African healthcare app, to Swiftly, a shared container option launched in Ghana.
Participants were then given the option to work on a sharing economy case study and come together to determine the ways in which the Comunidas model might be scaled to their regions or community contexts.
“We have to consider creating experiences instead of just creating jobs…We need to think about learning, sharing and exchanging.” – Gerardo at the #YouthSpeakForum
